Big Ragwort Pull
Join the Warden team for a rewarding morning helping clear the fields of ragwort ahead of our annual hay cut.
Despite being fantastic for all sorts of invertebrates, ragwort is toxic to herbivores and undetectable when dried in hay. We will be pulling the plant out of specific grazing and haymaking areas to keep the hay and our cattle ragwort free, while retaining it in other areas so that the cinnabar caterpillar and other inhabitants still have a food source and home.
Meet at the Wandlebury car park noticeboard at 10am
No need to book, just turn up.
What to bring
- Work/gardening gloves (we have plenty of spares)
- Sturdy footwear
- Dress for the weather – sunhat, suncream if needed
- We recommend wearing trousers, even if it is a hot day, due to presence of thistles, brambles, nettles and sharp grass seeds
- Food or drink to keep you going
Help care for green spaces and their wildlife, get active, meet others and enjoy learning about traditional rural practices at the same time.
All welcome (under 18s accompanied). No prior experience is needed; we’ll show you how to identify ragwort and its lookalikes and provide all the tools and guidance you’ll need.
Please contact warden@cambridgeppf.org with any queries.
