A Lasting Legacy Helps More People Explore Wandlebury
Visitors to Wandlebury Country Park can now enjoy even greater access to its beautiful woodlands, meadows and miles of unsurfaced trails, thanks to the donation of a second mobility scooter, gifted in memory of a much-loved local man whose passion for the outdoors never faded.
The new scooter is available free of charge to anyone who would benefit from extra support exploring the park. It was generously donated by the family of Andrew Perry, whose love of walking, nature and spending time outdoors inspired the gift.
Andrew’s family said:
“Dad was a larger-than-life character, who spent as much time as possible in the outdoors. He loved walking, exploring and making the most of the great British countryside with his family. We all have happy memories of time with him out and about.
As his mobility reduced in his last couple of years, we all welcomed visiting anywhere where he could still get out and keep exploring, which is why we are so delighted to be able to donate the scooter to Wandlebury, so it might help others in a similar position.”

The donation means Wandlebury now has two mobility scooters available, allowing more visitors to experience the park while reducing waiting times during busy periods.
The scooters are specially designed for use on unsurfaced paths, making it possible for more people to explore Wandlebury’s woodland trails, open meadows and changing seasonal landscapes with family and friends.
Cambridge Past, Present & Future Chief Executive Mike Hakata said:
“Having a second scooter available is a wonderful step forward for accessibility at Wandlebury. The scooters are designed for use on unsurfaced paths, making them ideal for exploring the park’s beautiful trails, meadows and woodlands.
We know that visiting as a family or with friends can sometimes be limited by mobility challenges, so being able to offer two scooters means more people can enjoy spending time together outdoors. Gifts like this make a real difference to people’s lives.”
For Andrew’s family, the donation is a lasting tribute that reflects what mattered most to him: helping others continue making memories outdoors.
It is also a reminder of the difference that gifts made in memory can make. By supporting places like Wandlebury, families can celebrate the lives of loved ones while helping others enjoy nature for years to come.
Both mobility scooters are free to hire but must be booked in advance.
