Wandlebury Archaeology Excavations – Past, Present & Future
Sat 9 May, 11am – 12pm plus Q&A
In this short talk, Oscar Aldred will present the results of recent research excavations at Wandlebury, contextualised by the previous investigations in the 1950s and 1990s. Since 2024, the Department of Archaeology with the Cambridge Archaeological Unit, have been excavating at Wandlebury, training the next generation of archaeologists from the department. In addition to this, over a five-year period, the research will add an in-depth knowledge about the middle Iron Age hillfort, as well as the periods of use at Wandlebury before the hillfort was constructed, as well as after the Iron Age occupation. Included in the talk will be a first showing of finds that have emerged from this year’s excavations, and a selection of material from the previous excavations.
