Giving in Memory
If you have treasured memories of a loved one or a special moment to commemorate at one of the places we care for, then making an in-memory gift to Cambridge Past, Present & Future is a great way to make a difference to local nature and heritage.
We have several options to commemorate loved ones and life events at both Wandlebury Country Park and Coton Countryside Reserve. Although we wish we could accommodate all commemorative giving requests this is not always possible.
Please note that we do not encourage the scattering of ashes as Wandlebury as it is a public park and not a memorial garden. Please see our guidance for more information.
Wandlebury
Country Park
If you have special memories of the park and wish to give a gift in memory of a loved one you can dedicate a sky gazing seat to a loved one, sponsor one of our spectacular trees or donate towards a butterfly plaque in our new pollinator garden.
Sky Gazing Seats
Each of these three new sculptural seats will be carved by a local woodcarver craftsman from a single piece of sequoia redwood are intended to give visitors a chance to take some time out for a mindful moment, look up at the clouds and listen to the sounds of nature all around. They will be placed in a quiet area of the walled garden at Wandlebury.
The photos in this article are not of Wandlebury.
Sky-gazing seats are made to order.
We all need the chance to take some time out for a mindful moment, look up at the clouds and listen to the sounds of nature all around and these seats offer a good way to remember someone special to you. They can be enjoyed on your own or in company.
An inscription can be hand carved onto the back of each seat – ten words are included in the order price but if you would like more words please get in touch for a quote.
They are available as memorial seats and can have an inscription carved onto them,
so if you would like to dedicate them to a loved one please get in touch with development@cambridgeppf.org for more information and to order.
There is a minimum donation of £5,000 for each seat, which goes towards the cost of making the seat, delivery, installation and the care and maintenance of the seat and area for five years.
Please note that these are unique crafted artworks made individually and consequently you may have to wait up to 3 months for the seat to be delivered and displayed.
Plant a Tree
Cambridge PPF are transforming farmland into a beautiful mix of meadows and woodland. It is part of our efforts to increase nature, adapt to the impacts of climate change and support people’s health and well-being.
As part of this exciting project we want to plant 3 new native trees as a small copse. The trees will be beech, lime and sweet chestnut and they will be protected from grazing animals with a substantial wooden tree guard.
We are asking donors to dedicate these special new trees. There is a minimum suggested donation of £2,500 for each dedicated tree which goes towards the cost of the tree and tree guard, a stainless steel plaque with a 4 line inscription, delivery, careful planting and the care and maintenance of the tree for at least five years.
It is also a donation towards our charitable work to protect the beauty of Cambridge and its environment. Donors will be invited to help plant the tree.
Please email development@cambridgeppf.org to find out more and to make an appointment to view the location.
Sponsor a Tree
Have you got a favourite tree at Wandlebury Country Park or Coton Countryside Reserve?
You can now choose a tree that is special to you or a loved one at either Wandlebury or Coton and sponsor it. A suggested minimum donation of £595 includes a beautiful personalised stainless steel tree plaque so you can give a dedication to mark the event. Order Here
See here for further information or email development@cambridgeppf.org
To order online please complete and return this form to us – please note that not every tree is part of the sponsorship scheme so we can’t guarantee your choice.
Sponsoring a tree with a plaque is an ideal present for a special someone, a gift in memory of a loved one, or a present for friends and family to mark a marriage, significant birthday, anniversary or birth of a child.
Wendy Reynolds and her family celebrated with our warden Hannah, as they installed their plaque under the Cedar of Lebanon.
Wendy’s parents met when they worked for the Gray family at Gog Magog House. Here is a wonderful photo of them from the 1930’s in front of the same tree.
Sponsor a tree at Coton or Wandlebury for a donation of £595, which goes towards onsite conservation and managing the woodlands. Not every tree is included in the scheme so please check with us.
There are some beautiful and unusual specimens such as European sweet chestnut, yews, copper beech, Holme oak, acacia, cut-leaf beech, and black walnut.
All donations go towards looking after the woodlands, meadows and fields in our care.
Butterfly Plaques
You can get involved with our new pollinator garden by dedicating a butterfly plaque to a special someone at the beautiful and historic Wandlebury Country Park. The plaques will be displayed on the historic wall next to the garden, which is inside the Ring walled garden on wires where the espalier fruit trees once grew.
The new garden has been designed by a volunteer with pollinator friendly plants to attract butterflies, moths, bees and wasps with a variety of food sources and habitat. These in turn will help pollinate the nearby orchard. Watch a short film of the pollinator garden in full flower, being enjoyed by bees, wasps, butterflies and moths.
The unique butterfly plaques have been designed by celebrated nature artist Eleanor Chaney and are made in Britain from stainless steel. You can choose from four native British butterflies which, along with all invertebrates are at risk due to habitat loss.
There is a minimum suggested donation of £199 for each plaque. This covers the costs of the displayed plaque, a donation towards the maintenance of the pollinator garden to keep it looking good all year round and to support our work to care for and share heritage and green spaces in Cambridge.

The plaques make a wonderful gift any time of the year or to celebrate a special event such as a milestone birthday or wedding anniversary, to mark a marriage, the birth of a child or in memory of a loved one or treat yourself! You can personalise the plaques with a 4 line dedication - please put this in the comments box.
This is how each plaque will appear:
Cambridge Past, Present & Future are grateful to South Cambridge District Council Community Chest and the Cambridge Water Pebble Fund for the grants awarded to create the garden.
If you have any questions, please get in touch development@cambridgeppf.org
Please note that because these are unique crafted artworks, the plaques are made in small batches so please be patient while your plaque is being manufactured. You may have to wait up to 8 weeks until the plaque is delivered and displayed.
Leave a Legacy
Remember Cambridge Past, Present & Future in your will
We rely heavily on the kind donations of supporters to make a difference to Cambridge and its surroundings. One way you can help support our work is to leave a legacy donation in your Will or to make a donation in memory of someone you love.
If you or a loved one have had a lifetime’s pleasure from places such as Wandlebury Country Park and Coton Country Reserve or our heritage sites, then a legacy gift is a great way of helping future generations to enjoy it too.
Members and supporters of Cambridge Past, Present & Future have provided legacies large and small to enable us to:-
- care for places such as Wandlebury,
- create Coton Countryside Reserve
- provide learning and outreach
- look after the historic buildings in our care.
Leaving a legacy to charity in your will is often a lot simpler than people think.
There are a number of ways you can leave a legacy to us, it can be:
- a specified amount of money
- a percentage of your estate
- specific items.
It may also take the form of
- a donation in memory of a loved one
- a gift instead of floral tributes at a funeral.
Because we are a charity your gift in a will is exempt from Inheritance Tax and you could reduce the amount of inheritance tax due on your estate by leaving us a legacy.
If you are thinking of leaving a legacy it would be best to speak to your solicitor. You can find a solicitor at www.lawsociety.org.uk. If you do decide to give a legacy it is helpful to include our charity number – 204121
For further information please download our legacy leaflet. When you are ready we’d be pleased to talk to you about leaving a legacy and all information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
