Thank you to our Amazing Team of Volunteers
Volunteers are central to everything we do at Cambridge Past, Present & Future. Across historic sites, nature reserves, planning committees and public events, they help deliver our mission day in, day out.
At Bourn Windmill, Hinxton Watermill and the Leper Chapel, volunteers open doors, guide visitors, and keep these rare sites in working order. They’re the reason these places remain accessible to the public.
On the land, regular work party volunteers help manage over 600 acres of countryside, keeping paths clear, tackling invasive species, planting trees, feeding birds, and picking litter. Last year alone, volunteers gave nearly 5,000 hours of time to estate work – the equivalent of two-and-a-half full-time staff.
Behind the scenes, volunteers also provide specialist expertise. Our trustees and committee members bring strategic oversight and professional knowledge across planning, heritage and finance – helping us stay focused, accountable and informed.
Others support our work in quieter ways: from leading guided walks and surveying wildlife to fixing a model windmill or helping run public events. Whether it’s a few hours a month or a weekly commitment, every volunteer makes a tangible difference.
We recently held a summer BBQ to thank the many people who give their time and skills to CPPF. It was a chance to connect, reflect, and acknowledge the contribution that makes so much of our work possible. Thank you to all of you that came along and have supported CPPF over the past year.
Get Involved
From Tuesday 30 September, our weekly winter outdoor work parties will run every Tuesday until Christmas. These outdoor sessions are a great way to support local nature, meet others, and learn practical skills. No experience is needed – just a willingness to get stuck in. This year for the first time we will also be doing some work parties at Grantchester and Barnwell Meadows, as well as our usual parties at Wandlebury and Coton Reserve.

A big thank you to our Corporate partners whose teams volunteer throughout the year for CambridgePPF
