Inspiring the next generation at Wandlebury
More than 1,600 primary school children visit Wandlebury Country Park each year to take their learning beyond the classroom. Now, with a new Education Advisor and plans to develop our programme, we hope to give even more young people the opportunity to discover, understand and care for the places around them.
We are delighted to welcome Lucy Bullen-Smith as CPPF’s newly appointed Education Advisor.
Lucy brings extensive experience of teaching in primary schools across Cambridge and the surrounding area, where she championed outdoor learning and helped make field trips an important part of school life.
“The value of giving children access to high-quality learning outside the classroom is immeasurable,” she says. “We see it in the way children flourish, grow in confidence and surprise us, while making memories that can stay with them for years.”
Bringing learning to life
Our schools programme at Wandlebury offers children the chance to take part in practical science and nature studies or spend a full day exploring Iron Age life.
Wandlebury’s remarkable history makes it a particularly powerful place to learn. Through activities including winnowing wheat, grinding grain, weaving and baking bread over an open fire, children can experience aspects of Iron Age life in the landscape where people lived more than 2,000 years ago.
The sessions are delivered by CPPF’s dedicated team of experienced field teachers, whose knowledge and enthusiasm consistently receive excellent feedback from visiting schools. Nearly 40% of bookings come from schools returning to take part again.
Lucy will work closely with the field teachers and with Nicola, our Education & Events Coordinator, to strengthen the existing programme and explore opportunities for secondary school groups and learning at other CPPF sites.
As a trained Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Lucy will also help ensure our sessions are inclusive and that, wherever possible, appropriate support can be put in place for every child.

We have produced a new leaflet introducing schools to the learning experiences available at Wandlebury, and our members and supporters can help us place it in the hands of more teachers.
