Griff Rhys Jones – Blockers or Builders of the Future?

Artist, activist, and comedian Griff Rhys Jones joins us to ask how progress and preservation can work hand in hand, and what that means for Cambridge’s future.

Griff Rhys Jones: Blockers or Builders of the Future?

We’re delighted to welcome Griff Rhys Jones as guest speaker at this year’s annual talk, taking place in the Babbage Theatre at the David Attenborough Building, one of Cambridge’s most iconic venues for environmental thought and action. 7.30pm on Friday 28 November.

Book your place HERE.

Known to millions as one of Britain’s most loved performers, Griff first came to fame in Not the Nine O’Clock News and Smith and Jones, winning an International Emmy and multiple British Comedy Awards. His remarkable career has spanned stage, screen, and page, from Olivier Award-winning theatre roles to bestselling books and acclaimed television series exploring landscapes, rivers, and heritage across Britain and beyond.

Beyond his celebrated career in the arts, Griff is a passionate advocate for the built and natural environment. As President of Civic Voice and the Victorian Society, he has championed heritage protection, community-led planning, and thoughtful development across the UK. His long-standing efforts to restore the Hackney Empire are just one example of his belief that creativity, heritage and civic pride can work hand in hand.

Griff will explore a timely question: are we blockers or builders of the future?

Drawing on his experience as both artist and activist, he will invite us to consider how progress and preservation can coexist, and how each of us can play a part in shaping a future that honours the past while meeting the needs of today.

Join us for what promises to be an evening of wit, insight and inspiration.
